Dee & kids - Awesome, how did s/he come to you?
Dr. Liz - He's 10+ years old. Some arthritis.
Dee & kids - I'm sure you can do something about that Dr liz...lol
Dr. Liz - Just after Alex dropped his body on Dec. 7th, he came to me and asked me to do for another dog, what I did for him ... meaning, to adopt an older dog and give him great Golden Years in his life. The same time he came to me, he appeared to Jim in a dream, with the same instruction.

Dr. Liz - So I looked around Petfinder a lot. One dog kept drawing me back. Turned out the dog was in a shelter about 30" from me. Went to meet him on Tuesday, went back again on Wednesday, and came home with him tonight.
Dr. Liz - He's a mixed breed, most probably collie or sheltie, some shepherd, and blond lab. Maybe.
Dee & kids - what kind of dog??
Dr. Liz - Weighs about 40 pounds. He's underweight.

Dr. Liz - He's not too happy about being alone. He's crated at the moment, for his security. But he's missing all his other kennel buddies.
Dr. Liz - Dee, he picked up on it right away.

Dee & kids - what was the first thing he said to you??
Dr. Liz - The kennel director told me the story she had been told by the person who brought him in. He told me right away it wasn't true. Then SHE said that she felt the woman was lying.
Dr. Liz - Dee, I really don't know. The shelter people said he was given up the day after Thanksgiving ... but in his picture, which was taken outdoors, there's healthy green foliage ... which doesn't exist here at that time of year.

Dr. Liz - I was told that the woman who brought him in said he had been running around loose for a while and she had finally caught him and brought him in. He said he wasn't running around at all, that they had been feeding him less and less and that there was a fight and one person wanted to keep him and the other wanted to give him up. So the one that wanted to give him up, took him to the shelter.

Dr. Liz - I figure he's got between 4 and 6 years left. Maybe more, but he's a medium-large dog, and they usually don't live much past 14-16.

AJRN - Dr Liz, may I ask how long an adult Lhasa male will bond with a female Lhasa puppy? They sort of play and the male Lhasa growls but it seems that he antigonizes the puppy and she does the same. He is 6 yrs. old and she is 13 weeks old.

Dr. Liz - Well, if they're growling at each other, they're vying for pack dominance. And if AJRN is letting them"work it out between them" which is what I sense is happening, that's a formula for trouble.
kikfrd - Is this when AJRN has to stand up and be the leader?
Dr. Liz - AJRN and the puppy should be working on pack structure with AJRN clearly being the pack leader. Same for AJRN and the older dog.

RosieTara - He will....the puppies are surrounded by older Rottweilers , too....our friend have 7 of them...very beautiful well behaved animals...
Dr. Liz - The first point is "establishing pack leadership." Exercise is not enough for that.
Dr. Liz - The second point is, "ongoing mental stimulation." He doesn't really address that at all.

Dr. Liz - For example, I can easily get "attached" in relationship, even though I "know" I "shouldn't". I also know that the way to TRULY love is to be willing to let someone go, or let them be "free." I'm not always great with the balance there. So I thought I'd bring the topic up and see what your experiences are in this area!

Dee & kids - my experience is that if I approach a relationship with also wanting the Truth, then I am more able to let go if it isn't what I really want

Dr. Liz - Dee, that's a realization I had this past weekend. That if the person doesn't want to be with me, then I can not really want them, even though a part of me says I do.
RosieTara - Dee, one can set somebody FREE and be with the person at the same time...I guess
Dr. Liz - So it's time for me to realize that I must not really want that person, and let it go.
Dee & kids - right- the "I want a realtionship" is what you want, not necessarily THAT person
kikfrd - Your love for them allows you to let them go and do what they have to do.

Dee & kids - RT- that is the only way i think, that if they chose to be with you , yet are totally free...then you know it is real

Dr. Liz - The "too much driving", by the way, is a 45 minute drive. Not very much by my standards.
