Marge - ... Liz, my van had a major problem which got repaired by mid-afternoon; then I found out I needed a reservation (which we didn't think of) as this is a long weekend in Alberta; so, not a good time to travel after all. I hope to do it sometime, but at this time, haven't any idea when.

Laura & Furry Kids - Have been to Yellowstone a couple of times - Glacier Park is even more spectacular, for me. :)
Sher - Yosemite is beautiful, I'd recommend it after the winter snows start melting...then there are huge waterfalls!

Sher - Yeah, plenty of redwoods in Yosemite and in Muir Woods
Laura & Furry Kids - I've heard about trees so huge you can drive through them - like people created tunnels out of the trunk. Sounds like a lame end for the tree!
Liz - I used to collect playing cards. I still have about 300 of them, from decades ago.
Liz - 52 of them are of Yosemite. <grin>.

Liz - At Muir woods, they have a slice of a redwood tree that was 2,600 years old when it fell. They have little flags on the annual rings of the tree, marking events in history, like, "Buddha" , "Christ", "the Magna Carta" ... it's amazing and humbling to experience that the tree's spirit saw and lived through all those years.  They also have a tree whose base is mostly hollowed out, that is so large, that people could gather to sit inside it.  I did, and felt like a wood spirit.  I loved it.  Reminded me, laughingly, that my middle name is “Forrest.”

Liz - Well, being a former forester, I volunteer that when one has a cross section of a trunk of a tree, one can ALWAYS tell the age of the tree when felled or cut. Each year a ring gets created as the tree grows and creates its' new layer of bark. Thicker rings are wetter/healthier seasons, thinner rings are dryer/unhealthier seasons. Count the rings and you know the age of the tree. If you know when the tree felled, count the rings and do the math, you know when the tree started life. 
Marge - Sher .. I rode a ride in northern California .. started at Lake Tahoe and ended up at Auburn. Is this close? I hadn't heard of Muir woods.

Wolf - absolutely! Actually that was the only time I have been there in this life -I know that I was there before - a looooooooong time ago!
Liz - Muir woods is near San Francisco.  Tahoe I believe is on the border of Nevada and California.  I went to Heavenly Valley once, to ski, and went to the very top of the Mountain (over 10,000 feet, if I remember), to look one direction to see California, and the other, to see Nevada.  VERY different terrains.  Wonderful experience.

Liz - My brother's in Canada at the moment. He left Vermont today to go to Montreal to pick up my niece's boyfriend and her furniture, to drive it to Toronto, where she is starting naturopathic med school.
Wolf - actually Sher it was just a feeling - the minute that i got off the plane - that I knew that I was home -and I am from Philly - Pa - east coast! ;-)
Marge - Laura ... I rode to the top of the Great Divide .. BC/Alberta border .. with a 360 degree view! Incredible, and incredibly difficult to get up to on horseback.

Liz - GG ... Catherine Marshall wrote a beautiful book when her famous husband Peter died. It's called, "To Live Again." It saved my Mother, after my Dad died suddenly right in front of her and left her in debt with 3 kids to feed.

GirlyGirls - Folks, my kitties came back from NH with some kind of dermatitis that shows up primarily in the same place on both of them. .. ears down to eyes, little weepy sores (prolly from scratching, too), little crumbly scabs, at back of neck or between shoulder blades, and I'm not getting anywhere with it, patches of hair coming out, too. Help!!

Liz - GG ... well, the diluted mixture would be used externally. If an animal's skin is sore and open, I'll sometimes put a little Crab Apple in a poultice made of oatmeal.
