GirlyGirls - Wow! My friend Kim, who is a large animal vet in NC, had 2 mastiffs. Her darling, Socrates (pronounced So-Crates LOL) died recently. What a lovely breed they are.

GirlyGirls - THe chats were a HUGE support for me for the four years my Pinky cat (along with Fannie cat and me) fought a great fight .

Sue - I could have used it when I lost my Schatzie to bone cancer
GirlyGirls - Pinky died last November. We still miss her much here, but the support of the familiarity of the crew here was part of why she lasted 4 years past anyone's expectations!!

GirlyGirls - She developed what I call an impact cancer when very young. When about two, she got (somehow) a big contusion to her lower gut (kick? Fall?). She had a hard time with bladder infections after that, then developed a rare cancer. had a tumor the size of a grapefruit for all those years.

GirlyGirls - It's so common in the older cats, Summerz, too common, but can often be managed for many years if you can help her stay otherwise healthy.

Summerz - She's pretty frail right now......I'm doing sub q fluids and also syringe feeding, although she is eating on her own too. Nevertheless, she is only HALF of her ideal weight
Dee&Zoe&Phoebe - Liz- she seems much better...can't figure out where the eye thing came from...but it looks to be under control now...i think she had a reaction to the first ointment she got from vet...it got much worse after starting it
Dr. Liz - DZP, what are you doing, for Zoe's eye infections?
GirlyGirls - Check out the Wysong foods Summerz. They are more expensive, but good quality, and if you email them with info about your pet, they will recommend specific food to support them.

Dee&Zoe&Phoebe - she was given terramycin (for 2 days - got worse so we stopped), then a steriod drop...vet didnt want to inject since she id diabetic....then zoe started sneezing, her face was swollen...looked like she was beaten up!...added clavamox...seems to be working

Summerz - I know.......vets like low protein for crf, but there is some thought that they really do need a higher protein but low phos.

Dr. Liz - Vb08, there are answers, good ones, to your questions; but there's a lot to it, and it's a lot more than we can cover tonight. But such behaviors as you describe, are frequently the result of the care-human NOT being clear about being the alpha in the family pack.

Dr. Liz - Sher, sometimes that can work and work well. But when problems such as Vb08's problems arise, the easiest way to solve them is to have the care-human become the 'pack leader.'

Dr. Liz - Vb08, being a clear "alpha" to your dogs doesn't mean you won't experience love with them. Please get one of the many wonderful books on this topic.

GirlyGirls - Liz, you should have a TV show like Super Nanny, only, Super Liz or something and go into homes that are chaotic because of the pet's behaviors, and retrain the owners. Do you know the show Super Nanny?

Dr. Liz - Vb, what you're looking for is a book that's simple and covers the major items with dogs, including things like, don't let your dog go out of the door before you (which I sense you do); never feed your dog anything without making it work for it first (even if it's "just" a "sit"); and more.

Sue - Vb..one of the best rules to follow for this behavior is "noting in life is free", meaning they must "sit" or "down" for everything they want, cookies, to go out, dinner, ect. I have four Rotties & my Bear Bear (who believe me, melts me everytime he looks at me) is just like the dog you are describibg. It's hard but it is for the best.

Dr. Liz - Summerz, Tanuka, my dog, and I, were that way, too. With some animals, and with some connections, very special ones, equality is best. But Vb08 is having behavior problems. So the situation is different.

Sher - I was in at a vet recently, and a petite woman had this huge German Shepherd on a leash...but she used very whispery words with him, and he behaved. so amazing!

Dr. Liz - Skunks have very sharp teeth; and their mouths are their primary way of knowing their world, since their eye-sight isn't very good. So they like to bite things to understand things better.

vb08 - Summerz this year i took my usual trip to Canada, this year was extremely hard, my sister past about a year ago... and when i reach canada i just embraced the nature...the water helped me the most... i believe you should get into nature... ask for help..ask your spirit guide to lead you to the place where you can find peace again
Dr. Liz - What if I suggested, that living from the inside out, would give you MORE time, and smooth over especially the difficult events of your lives?
GirlyGirls - I remember that feeling Summerz, I had a similar history with my beloved animal companions, and Pinky was a strong connection for me. her illness was devastating.
Summerz - I hope so....I feel like all energy has been sucked out of me
Marge - in times of stress and overwhelming things all around, ... for me, going inside even for a few seconds at a time helps calm me and grounds me. Liz, the 'am yoga' followed by my meditation sure helps me go inside.

GirlyGirls - I'd agree. I know it is so, Liz, just hard to keep that going sometimes.

Dee&Zoe&Phoebe - Summerz - i understand the feelings you are going through..my Zoe got cancer a few years back (through hard work and an alternative route to conventional medicine she was cured), but has diabetes now and just recently leaky gut, eye infection...seems never ending and heartbreaking

Margie - Breathe deep in the am [fresh air of course]walk and meditate and surround yourself with all pleasnat thought and never let the negative into those thoughts

Dr. Liz - It occurred to me, that if people really KNEW what was inside of them, waiting to be found, then they would be more interesting in connecting with it on a very regular basis.

vb08 - It is a scary place to actully see what you are hiding and not expressing... it starts as a child some things we never express, well it doesnt leave us, it just lingers in our soul waiting to be expressed... thats why it is so scary we see our flaws and times when we were in pain

Summerz - I know.....but every time I turn around I have to take care of someone, including humans. That is nothing new, but in the past I've had time to rest in between......just have been hit with too much lately all at once
Marge - at a point in my life, I don't think I expected things to be any 'calmer or peaceful' inside then they were outside ... so I really didn't want to find out
vb08 - I have not...but i have look at it..it sounds very interesting...
vb08 - in the book does it tell you the things we keep inside can lead to this or that?
Marge - yes Dee, great book!
Sher - Summerz, that's hard...but also realize that every day you make choices...so what are your choices? are you forgetting to take care of you too?
GirlyGirls - Taking care of someone has the potential to be a peaceful and serene undertaking, a blessing, Summerz. I have found myself recharged by caring for someone, even when I travelled there absolutely beat from a long day
Dr. Liz - So take a moment now, and close your eyes. You may wish to count to 20 or so, with one part of your awareness, so that you know when to open your eyes, to see the next part of the process' instructions. But for now, close your eyes, and simply look inside, perhaps, inside your head; perhaps, inside your torso. And ask yourself, what do you see? And then after about 20 seconds or so, open your eyes, and we'll continue.
vb08 - summerz, you dont have to take care of everyone... at times when you need a break say " GOSH DARN IT I NEED A BREAK!"
Dee&Zoe&Phoebe - Summerz- some poeple are natural care-givers, but yo ucan only be most effective if you are properly energized to do so...or yo just become drained....do you meditate?
Sue - I don't think I have ever been at peace with myself. The only time I feel peace is when I am with my dogs
Summerz - Sher, that's why I want to get to the shore for a few days......to recharge and relax

Summerz - I feel like I'm in limbo because I've become stuck within the last 2 years, especially in the last year after my dog died

Dr. Liz - Now take a deep breath, and let that layer dissolve, whatever you "saw" this time. And now close your eyes again, and this time, look into your heart/chest area, near the center of your torso. Again, spend about 20 seconds or so, and then open your eyes.
TinaB - I had this image of something like mangles wire - does that mean anything?
Dr. Liz - What did you "see", this time?
Sue - I see/feel tightness - that can't be good
vb08 - Tina B maybe many different emotions..? like they are intertwined they all have an effect on one another, a certain situation may have caused this mix of emotions?
GirlyGirls - I brought myself to my whole body, to experience this humanness fully, what my hands express, being in my toes and where my steps lead, fully present to my humanness
Dee&Zoe&Phoebe - I felt what semed to be an open heart chakra...drawing something (energy maybe ) in
vb08 - I feel like all that was blown in the wind...
Summerz - can't really "see" anything , but sense a broken heart
Marge - I saw a 'quiet' place ... my heart
TinaB - I felt more peace there. The "wired" area was in my abdomen - but it is hard to concentrate with a kitten running across your legs - LOL!
vb08 - a little leaving my body...
GirlyGirls - It started in my chest area, coming down there helped me to fan out.. . get out of my head
Margie - I saw giving love
Sher - I saw my heart asking me to open up and trust and love more, for its own health

vb08 - Yellow is very vivid in my mind.... Very bright..
Summerz - I asked what color was there, and I got that it was "green"

Marge - I saw a very dark red color with a pink hugh around the outside of it
Sher - white like a star shining

Summerz - a very deep green....like dark green grass
Marge - mine was actually a dark browny red with a distinct pink hugh around it
Dr. Liz - Again, take a deep breath. And again, let the layer you just experienced dissolve. And again, look deeply into your heart area of your torso. And again, close your eyes for about 20 seconds. Ask yourself what you see there. Also, this time, again, ask yourself, if there's a color, or no color, to what you're seeing. And this time, also ask yourself, if there's a feeling, an emotion, perhaps a feeling or emotion like goodness, that's associated with the color you're seeing. And after 20 seconds, open your eyes again.

Dr. Liz - GG, what you've experienced, is exactly what everyone will experience, when s/he goes through enough of dissolving layers. A good "nothing."

Dr. Liz - It's sometimes VERY hard, I've found, to do this process for yourself. People seem to need to be led through it.
Dr. Liz - When we dissolve enough of the layers, 20 seconds each layer, and keep going, we will all find the same thing. A nothing that feels good.

Dr. Liz - Which is what we inherently are.
Marge - yes, I can imagine it wouldn't be easy trying to do it alone
